What you need

  • Your site as a folder of files. Our free builder gives you one in about 15 minutes.
  • An email address for a free Cloudflare account.
  • About 5 minutes.
  • Your own domain name, if you want one (optional).

Option 1: Drag and drop (no software)

The quickest way. Good if you have never used a terminal.

  1. Build and download your site

    Use the free builder, then press "Download free". You get a .zip with every page, your photos, and the fonts.

  2. Open Cloudflare Drop

    Go to cloudflare.com/drop. No account or software is needed to start.

  3. Drag the folder onto the page

    Unzip the download and drag the folder (or the .zip itself) onto the page. In a few seconds you get a live link.

  4. Claim it within an hour

    An unclaimed site is removed after one hour. Click Claim and create a free Cloudflare account to keep it.

Option 2: Deploy with Wrangler

Cloudflare's command-line tool. Better if you will update the site often.

  1. Install Node.js

    Download the LTS version from nodejs.org and install it. This gives you the npx command.

  2. Open a terminal in your site folder

    Unzip the download, then open Terminal (Mac) or PowerShell (Windows) in that folder.

  3. Log in to Cloudflare

    Run npx wrangler login. A browser window opens; sign in or create a free account and allow access.

  4. Deploy

    Run npx wrangler deploy. The download already includes the wrangler.jsonc it needs. You get a link ending in workers.dev.

  5. Update any time

    Change a page, save, and run npx wrangler deploy again. The new version replaces the old one in seconds.

Connect your own domain

Optional. Your site already works on its workers.dev link.

  1. Add your domain to Cloudflare

    In the Cloudflare dashboard, add your domain and change its nameservers at your registrar to the two Cloudflare gives you.

  2. Open your site in Workers & Pages

    Select the Worker with your site's name, then Settings, then Domains & Routes.

  3. Add a Custom Domain

    Choose Add, then Custom Domain, and type your domain. Cloudflare creates the DNS record and the SSL certificate for you.

If something goes wrong

  • Blank page or 404 on Drop: make sure index.html is at the top level of what you dragged, not inside another folder.
  • "npx: command not found": Node.js isn't installed yet, or the terminal was open before you installed it. Reopen it.
  • Deploy asks which account: pick the one you want the site to live in.
  • Custom domain won't add: the domain has to be active on Cloudflare first, and no other record can use that exact name.

Questions

Is hosting a static website on Cloudflare really free?

For a static site, yes. Cloudflare says requests to static assets on Workers are free and unlimited. The free plan allows up to 20,000 files of up to 25 MiB each, far more than a small business site needs. You only pay if you want your own domain name, and that is paid to a domain registrar.

What is a static website?

A site made of ready-made files: HTML pages, a stylesheet, images, and fonts. There is no database or server code, so it loads fast, has almost nothing to hack, and costs next to nothing to host.

Workers or Pages?

Both can host a static site. Cloudflare now points new projects to Workers with static assets, and that is what the builder's download is set up for.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The drag-and-drop route needs no software at all. To change wording later, you edit the .html files in any text editor and upload again.

Can my static site have a contact form?

Not on its own; a form needs somewhere to send messages. The free download uses call and email buttons instead. Our $97/month plan adds a working form connected to LeadLock360, which answers new leads for you.
