DreamHost alternative

A good host. Just not one you can call.

DreamHost is a reasonable company with a panel of its own and a ticket queue. If you would rather have standard cPanel and a phone number in your own area code, that is what we sell, for $15, $25, or $50 a month.

cPanel, a phone, and a flat bill.

Nobody moves off DreamHost because the servers failed. They move because they wanted to talk to somebody and there was nobody to talk to.

cPanel Instead of a Custom Panel

DreamHost built its own panel rather than license cPanel. It works, but it is theirs. Every tutorial, every developer handoff, and every future migration assumes cPanel, and that is what you get here.

The Phone Is the Normal Channel

At most hosts, phone contact is either a callback queue or a paid add-on. Here it is the first option. (330) 305-2750 reaches the person who set up your account.

Same Time Zone, Same County

We are in East Canton. If you are in Stark, Summit, Portage, or Cuyahoga County, we already know the businesses on your street and the answer arrives during your workday.

Nightly Backups on Every Plan

Included at $15 a month, not sold as an extra service and not left to a plugin you have to remember to configure.

Email Set Up Properly

Mailboxes on your domain with SPF and DKIM configured, so your invoices and quotes stop landing in spam.

We Do the Migration for You

Files, database, SSL, redirects, DNS, and email. Included, not billed as a project.

The other side

When DreamHost is the better choice

DreamHost is one of the better independent hosts. Here is where staying is the smarter call.

  • You want a host that is not owned by a holding company

A lot of this industry has been rolled up into a handful of parent companies. DreamHost has stayed independent and is one of the hosts WordPress.org recommends. If that matters to you, it is a legitimate reason to stay.

  • You are comfortable working in a ticket system

DreamHost support is competent and their documentation is good. If you can describe a problem in writing and wait, you do not need us. Our whole difference is that you can just call.

  • You need cheap object storage or unmetered plans

Their storage and unlimited-traffic products are priced for people running a lot of data. We sell three shared plans. Do not squeeze a large workload into the wrong shape to get a local phone number.

  • You value their privacy and ownership stance

They have been public about privacy positions for a long time and it is not marketing. That is a real reason to pick a host, and we are not going to talk you out of it.

If you can fix your own site, DreamHost is good value. If the last three problems ended with you calling a nephew, that is what the difference in price buys here.

The move

What switching actually involves

DreamHost runs standard WordPress on standard PHP and MySQL with SFTP and database access, so the move is a copy and a DNS change rather than a rebuild. The custom panel does not lock anything in.

We do the work. You provide access and look at the preview before we point anything.

  1. Fifteen minutes on the phone first

Which sites are in the account, how big they are, whether email is at DreamHost or Google or Microsoft, and where the domain is registered. Those four answers decide the whole plan.

  2. We copy the site out of the DreamHost panel

Files and database together. DreamHost gives you SFTP and database access, so this is a straight copy, not an export-and-rebuild.

  3. You approve a preview

You get a temporary address and click through pages, forms, logins, and images. Nothing points at us until you say it looks right.

  4. Email moves before the website

DreamHost mailboxes get recreated here and messages copied, then we test send and receive. If your mail is already at Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, we leave those records alone entirely.

  5. DNS cutover, watched through propagation

TTL lowered first, records changed, both servers monitored. Most business sites are fully switched within a business day.

Plans

Three plans. The price does not change at renewal.

Foundation

$15/month

10GB NVMe SSD and 3 domains. This covers most five- to fifteen-page business sites.

Business

$25/month

50GB NVMe SSD and unlimited domains. For a bigger site, more email accounts, or a few sites on one account.

Professional

$50/month

100GB and dedicated resources. For heavier traffic, a small store, or a site that has outgrown shared limits.

Every plan includes free SSL, cPanel, nightly backups, malware scanning, and free migration from your current host. Billing is month to month, and there is a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Questions

Will the site be offline?

Most migrations can be handled with little to no downtime when DNS is planned correctly. The DreamHost copy stays live until the new one is tested, and both answer during the change. We will not promise a hard zero, because propagation is not entirely in our hands.

My domain is registered at DreamHost. Does it have to move?

No. You can leave registration there and point DNS at us. If you do want to transfer the registration, ICANN rules lock a domain from moving again for 60 days afterward, so we normally do DNS first and handle registration as a separate step.

What about my DreamHost email addresses?

We recreate the mailboxes here and copy the mail over with IMAP, then test both directions before DNS changes. You will need to update the settings in Outlook or on your phone once, and we walk you through it.

How much is it?

Foundation is $15 a month for 10GB and 3 domains. Business is $25 for 50GB and unlimited domains. Professional is $50 with dedicated resources. All three include SSL, cPanel, nightly backups, malware scanning, and migration, billed monthly with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Can I still use SSH and WP-CLI?

Yes. cPanel accounts here include SSH access, so if you are used to working from the command line on DreamHost, you keep that.
