When InMotion Hosting is the better choice

This is a close comparison and we are not going to inflate it. Here is where InMotion is the better answer.

  • You need a managed VPS with root and WHM

    InMotion sells VPS and dedicated plans with WHM licenses and real managed support at prices a one-person shop cannot match. If you have outgrown shared hosting, that is a genuinely good product and we would point you there ourselves.

  • You are running a reseller business

    If you host sites for other people and need WHM, white-label branding, and per-account provisioning, that is a different product than the three plans we sell.

  • You want 24/7 staffed support at 3am

    A national host has people on shift overnight. We do not. If your site being down at 3am costs real money, staffing beats familiarity, and we will say so.

  • You just signed a two-year term

    You have already bought the discount. Use it, put a reminder in the calendar sixty days before renewal, and look at the numbers then.

The move

What switching actually involves

Both sides run cPanel, so this is a full account transfer rather than a rebuild. It is the shortest migration on this site.

We do the transfer. You provide access and check the preview before DNS changes.

  1. We inventory the cPanel account

    Sites, addon domains, subdomains, databases and their sizes, PHP versions, cron jobs, email accounts and forwarders, and how SSL is issued. cPanel shows all of that, which is why this migration is short.

  2. Full account transfer

    cPanel to cPanel moves files, databases, mailboxes, forwarders, cron, and the DNS zone as one package. Nothing gets reassembled from memory.

  3. Preview and check

    The copy runs on a temporary address so you can walk pages, forms, logins, and any custom code. InMotion keeps serving live traffic the whole time.

  4. Email first, then web

    If mailboxes live in the InMotion cPanel, they come across and get tested before anything else. If you are on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, we leave those DNS records untouched.

  5. Cut DNS over and monitor

    TTL lowered, records changed, both servers watched through propagation. Most business sites are fully switched within a business day.

Questions

I paid for two years. Can I move now?

You can, but there is rarely a reason to pay twice. We will do the copy and testing whenever you want and hold the DNS change until your term runs out. Refund terms are between you and InMotion and we are not going to guess at them for you.

How is this different from just moving to another discount host?

It probably is not, on paper. Same cPanel, similar servers. The difference is who answers, how many people are between you and them, and whether the number on the invoice changes in year two. If those do not matter to you, a discount host is a fine choice.

Is the hardware as good?

For a normal small business WordPress site, both are NVMe SSD shared hosting and you will not feel a difference. If you are running something heavy enough that hardware is the deciding factor, you want a VPS, and we will say so instead of selling you a shared plan.

Will there be downtime?

Most migrations can be handled with little to no downtime when DNS is planned correctly. The InMotion site stays live until the copy here is approved. We do not promise a hard zero, because propagation is not fully under our control.
