The hosting is the easy half. The reason people put this off for years is that they do not know who owns the account, and nobody will sit on the phone with them long enough to find out.
Most of these calls are not about hosting. They are about an account opened in 2004, in the name of somebody who left the company, using an email address that no longer exists. That is the first thing we work on, and it is the part nobody else will sit on the phone for.
We check who the registrant and admin contacts actually are, get them corrected to you or your business, and then move the registration. A domain registered to a former employee is a real business risk.
Pull the last Network Solutions invoice and compare it to what a .com renewal costs at a current registrar. We think most people who do that are surprised. We are not going to quote their number for them, because you can read it yourself.
The other side
A twenty-year-old domain is not something to move on a whim. Here is when leaving it alone is the right call.
If you are mid-lawsuit, mid-acquisition, or mid-audit, do not move a domain. A transfer touches registrant records and locks the domain from moving again for 60 days. Finish the other thing first.
If your office manager logs in fine and renews it every year without drama, the only argument for moving is price. That is a real argument, but it is not an emergency.
Large registrar accounts sometimes carry brand-protection services, registry locks, and dispute history that a small shop should not be casually unwinding. Talk to whoever set that up before you talk to us.
If the website is a brochure nobody reads and the business runs on referrals and a phone, keep the domain renewing so your email works, and spend the money somewhere with a return.
If the only thing keeping you there is that you cannot face the phone call, that is the exact thing we will do with you.
The move
This is not a normal hosting migration. It is an ownership problem first, an email problem second, and a website problem a distant third, and doing it in that order is what keeps it from going badly.
We do not touch the registrar or cancel anything until the copies are made and you have logged in yourself. If it turns out you do not own the domain, we will tell you that on day one instead of month three.
We look up the public registration record for your domain and compare it to who you think owns it. Often the registrant is a person who left, or a web company that built the site fifteen years ago. That determines everything else.
Network Solutions and Web.com accounts were consolidated under the Network Solutions brand in 2025, so old bookmarks and old brand names may not be where you expect. Recovery usually means proving identity to the registrar. We stay on the phone with you while you do it.
We take a copy of the website, a copy of every mailbox, and a written record of the DNS zone exactly as it stands. Old accounts hold surprises, and once a record is gone nobody remembers what it was.
Mailboxes get recreated here, mail is copied over with IMAP, and we test send and receive from your own devices. Then the website copy goes up on a temporary address for you to check.
We unlock the domain, get the authorization code, start the transfer, and change the records. Registrar transfers can take several days to complete and ICANN rules then hold the domain in place for 60 days. Your site and mail keep working the whole time.
That is the normal case, not the hard case. The registrar has an identity verification process for exactly this. It usually needs a business document and a photo ID from an officer of the business. We will find the right process, tell you what to gather, and stay on the call while you submit it.
No, and be careful with anyone who says they can. Registrars verify the owner, not the web guy. What we do is sit with you while you prove it is yours, then handle everything technical after that.
Once the domain is unlocked and the authorization code is in hand, a transfer typically completes in about five days, and can be approved faster if you accept it from the losing registrar. After it completes, ICANN rules prevent another transfer for 60 days.
Not if it is done in the right order. We move and test mail before anything else changes, because on these accounts email is usually more valuable than the website. You will re-enter settings once on your phone and computer, and we walk you through it.
