We would rather you stay put than move for the wrong reason. Here is where SiteGround is the right answer and we are not.

  • You need servers outside the United States

    SiteGround runs data centers on several continents and lets you pick one. Every site we host is served from the US. If most of your traffic is in Europe, Asia, or Australia, that is a real technical reason to stay.

  • You are happy self-serving and never want to call anyone

    Site Tools is a good panel. Staging, git, and their caching plugin are genuinely useful if you know your way around WordPress. Our pitch is a person, and if you do not want a person, you are paying for something you will not use.

  • You run dozens of sites and want one dashboard

    Agency-scale account tooling is not what a one-person Ohio shop is built for. We host a handful of sites well. We do not pretend to be a fleet manager.

The move

What switching actually involves

A WordPress site on SiteGround is a normal migration. There is no export limitation to work around, no proprietary format, and no rebuild. It is a copy, a test, and a DNS change.

We handle all of it. You are asked for two things: account access, and twenty minutes to click through the preview before we go live.

  1. We look at the account first

    Site size, PHP version, plugin list, how many mailboxes, where the domain is registered, and where DNS is actually answered. Fifteen minutes on the phone usually covers it.

  2. We copy files and database to the new server

    SiteGround gives you a full backup and file access, so this is a straightforward copy rather than a rebuild. Your live site keeps running on SiteGround the whole time.

  3. You review it on a temporary URL

    Before anything points at us, you click through pages, forms, logins, and images on a preview address and tell us what looks wrong.

  4. We move email before we move the website

    If your mailboxes live at SiteGround, we create them here, copy mail over, and confirm send and receive. Email is the thing that hurts when a switch is rushed.

  5. We cut DNS over and watch it

    We lower the TTL first, then change the records, then watch both servers through propagation. Most sites are fully switched within a business day.

Questions

Will my site go down during the move?

Most migrations can be handled with little to no downtime when DNS is planned correctly. Your SiteGround site stays live until the copy here has been tested, and both servers answer during the DNS change. We will not promise a hard zero, because propagation is not entirely under our control.

How long does it take?

For a normal business site, the copy and test happen in a day and the DNS cutover happens the next morning. Bigger sites, ecommerce, and accounts with a lot of email take longer, and we will tell you that before we start rather than after.

Do I have to cancel SiteGround first?

No, and please do not. Keep the account open until the new site has been live and correct for a week. If you prepaid a term, let it run out. Nothing about switching requires you to cancel on day one.

What happens to my domain?

You can leave it registered where it is and just point DNS at us, or transfer the registration too. Both work. If you transfer, ICANN rules mean a domain cannot move again for 60 days, so we usually point DNS first and deal with registration separately.

Is $15 a month really the price?

Foundation is $15, Business is $25, Professional is $50, billed monthly. That is the renewal price as well. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee, and migration is included rather than sold as a service.
