Softaculous
How to Create a Backup with Softaculous
Back up your WordPress or other Softaculous-installed app with a few clicks.
Softaculous can create complete backups of any installed app — including all files and the database — without any technical knowledge.
Step 1: Open Softaculous
Log in to cPanel → Softaculous Apps Installer.
Step 2: Find Your Installation
Click All Installations (the briefcase icon) to see all your installed apps.
Step 3: Create the Backup
Click the Backup icon (disk/floppy icon) next to your installation.
On the backup page:
- Backup Location: Home Directory (default) — saves to your hosting account
- Note: Add an optional label (e.g., "Pre-update backup")
Click Backup Installation.
Finding the Backup File
The backup is saved to: /home/username/softaculous_backups/
You can download it via File Manager or FTP.
Setting Up Automated Backups
In Softaculous, click Edit for an installation → scroll to Automated Backups:
- Set a schedule (daily, weekly, monthly)
- Choose a rotation count (how many backups to keep)
- Save the settings
Tips
- Create a backup before any major update (WordPress core, theme, or plugin)
- Store copies of important backups off-server (download to your computer or upload to Dropbox)
- Softaculous backups are separate from 330 Hosting's nightly server backups
