The WordPress Dashboard
Navigate and understand the WordPress admin dashboard — your command center for managing your site.
The WordPress Dashboard is the admin interface where you manage every aspect of your website. Access it at yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
Dashboard Home
After logging in, you see the Dashboard home with:
- At a Glance — posts, pages, and comment counts
- Activity — recently published content
- Quick Draft — write a post without leaving the dashboard
- WordPress Events — news and meetup info from the WP community
Left Sidebar Navigation
- Posts — blog articles (add, edit, manage)
- Media — image and file library
- Pages — static pages (About, Contact, Services)
- Comments — moderate reader comments
- Appearance — themes, menus, widgets
- Plugins — install, activate, and delete plugins
- Users — manage admins, editors, authors
- Tools — import/export, site health
- Settings — general, reading, discussion, permalinks
Admin Bar (Top)
The black bar at the top of every page (visible when logged in):
- + New — quickly add post, page, or media
- Site name — links to site frontend
- User icon — profile and logout
Tips
- Use Screen Options (top right on most screens) to show/hide columns and sections
- Bookmark yourdomain.com/wp-admin for quick access
- Install a security plugin to add 2FA to your admin login
