FTP Access

How to Set Up FileZilla FTP Client

Connect to your hosting account using FileZilla, the most popular free FTP client.

FileZilla is a free, open-source FTP client available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It's the most widely used tool for transferring files to and from your hosting account.

Step 1: Download FileZilla

Download the FileZilla Client from filezilla-project.org. Install it on your computer.

Step 2: Open Site Manager

Launch FileZilla → FileSite Manager → click New Site.

Step 3: Enter Your Connection Details

  • Protocol: SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol (recommended)
  • Host: yourdomain.com (or your server IP from cPanel)
  • Port: 22 (for SFTP) or 21 (for FTP)
  • Logon Type: Normal
  • User: your cPanel username (or an FTP account username@yourdomain.com)
  • Password: your password

Click Connect.

Step 4: Accept the Host Key

On first connection via SFTP, FileZilla shows a host key warning. Click OK (and optionally "Always trust") to continue.

Navigating Files

  • Left panel = your local computer
  • Right panel = your server files
  • Drag files between panels to upload or download

Tips

  • Save the site in Site Manager so you don't re-enter credentials every time
  • Use Transfer → Speed Limits to avoid overwhelming the connection
  • FileZilla logs every action in the top panel — useful for troubleshooting
