How to Create a Backup in cPanel
Download a full or partial backup of your website, databases, and email to keep your data safe.
Regular backups protect your website data. cPanel provides tools to create manual backups in addition to the automatic backups 330 Hosting performs nightly.
Full Backup
- Log in to cPanel → Files → Backup
- Click Download a Full Website Backup
- Set Backup Destination to Home Directory
- Enter your email to get notified when ready
- Click Generate Backup
The backup appears in your home directory as a .tar.gz file. Download it via File Manager or FTP.
Partial Backups (Faster)
Under Partial Backups, download:
- Home Directory — just your files
- MySQL Databases — database dumps (.sql.gz)
- Email Forwarders — forwarding configuration
- Email Filters — filter rules
Restore from Backup
To restore: scroll down to Restore on the Backup page, choose the type, and upload the backup file.
Tips
- Download backups to your local computer, not just to the server
- 330 Hosting performs nightly backups — contact support to restore from one
- For WordPress sites, plugins like UpdraftPlus also work well
