Softaculous
How to Add Dropbox as a Backup Location in Softaculous
Automatically send Softaculous backups to your Dropbox account for off-site storage.
Storing backups in Dropbox gives you off-site protection — if your server has a problem, your backups are safe in the cloud.
Step 1: Open Softaculous Settings
Log in to cPanel → Softaculous. Click the gear icon (Settings) in the top-right.
Step 2: Connect Dropbox
Click FTP / Remote Settings or Backup Locations. Click Add Dropbox.
You'll be redirected to Dropbox to authorize Softaculous. Log in to Dropbox and click Allow.
Step 3: Configure Automated Backups
After authorizing, return to Softaculous. Edit an installation (click the pencil icon) and scroll to Automated Backups:
- Set backup frequency (daily, weekly)
- Set Backup Location to Dropbox
- Set rotation count
Folder Structure in Dropbox
Softaculous saves backups in: Dropbox/Apps/Softaculous/
Manual Backup to Dropbox
When creating a manual backup (from the Backup button on an installation), select Dropbox as the destination.
Tips
- Free Dropbox accounts have 2GB storage — this fills up quickly with large site backups
- Use rotation count to automatically delete old backups
- Also consider Google Drive as an alternative (requires a Softaculous plugin on some hosts)
