How to Manage DNS Zone Records in cPanel
Add, edit, and delete DNS records to control how your domain routes traffic and email.
DNS records tell the internet where to route traffic for your domain. The Zone Editor in cPanel gives you full control.
Opening Zone Editor
Log in to cPanel → Domains → Zone Editor → click Manage next to your domain.
Common Record Types
A Record — Points a domain or subdomain to an IP address.
Example: yourdomain.com → 192.168.1.1
CNAME Record — Aliases one domain name to another.
Example: www.yourdomain.com → yourdomain.com
MX Record — Directs email to a mail server.
Example: yourdomain.com → mail.yourdomain.com (priority 10)
TXT Record — Stores text data, used for domain verification, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
Example: v=spf1 include:_spf.330hosting.com ~all
Adding a Record
Click Add Record, select the type, and fill in the Name, TTL, and value fields. Click Add Record to save.
Editing a Record
Find the record, click Edit, make changes, and click Save Record.
Tips
- Lower TTL (300) when planning changes so propagation is faster
- Never delete the SOA or NS records — those control your zone itself
- DNS changes typically take 30 minutes to 4 hours to propagate fully
