How to Block an IP Address in cPanel
Block specific IP addresses from accessing your website to stop spam, scrapers, or attackers.
The IP Blocker lets you deny access to your website from specific IP addresses or ranges.
Step 1: Open IP Blocker
Log in to cPanel → Security → IP Blocker.
Step 2: Enter the IP to Block
In the "Add an IP or Range" field, enter one of:
- A single IP: 192.168.1.1
- A range: 192.168.1.1–192.168.1.50
- CIDR notation: 192.168.1.0/24
- A wildcard: 192.168.*
Click Add.
Finding Abusive IPs
Check your access logs in cPanel → Metrics → Raw Access or use the Error Logs. Look for IPs making excessive requests.
Removing a Block
Scroll to "Currently Blocked IPs," find the entry, and click Delete.
Alternatives for Bulk Blocking
For more advanced protection, consider:
- CloudFlare's WAF (free tier available) for blocking by country or behavior
- ModSecurity rules in cPanel → Security → ModSecurity
Tips
- Blocking your own IP locks you out — verify the IP before blocking
- IP blocking works at the Apache level, not the firewall — bots can still attempt connections
- For WordPress sites, plugins like Wordfence provide more granular blocking
